Math Task Procedures FREE

Regular price $ 0.00
This set contains my “Math Task Procedures” that are used in my classroom. There is a colored set and a black and white version.
These procedures help my students know what is expected of them when working in groups on their tasks.

I discuss these with the students (and occasionally have them “help” me come up with them). We review what they look like and practice them. We go over these every time we do a math task for the first several months. Then we review as necessary.

Use Math Tasks to Facilitate Deeper Understanding
The math tasks in this product differ from conventional math tasks. This approach has been proven to facilitate deeper student understanding and differentiation in the classroom.

How they work: Information is missing from each task to teach your students how to apply the standard’s concepts in real-world settings. For example, a question might ask how many legs the students saw while on a field trip to the zoo. The students would then have to reasonably estimate how many animals they saw, how many legs on each animal, and how many legs they saw in total. Your students might all get a different answer but as long as they do the math correctly, the final answers can be different.

Students can work individually, in small groups, or in partnerships to complete the math tasks given. They will use skills such as rounding, estimating, multiplying, dividing, adding, subtracting, guess and check, drawing pictures, using equations etc. to solve these problems. They can then share their work with the class and explain their thinking.
