Whole Brain Teaching: Classroom Rules

The Whole Brain Teaching rules is one of my favorite things to do with my kids. This is something they really get into and it really is effective. There are only 5 rules and they are so, sweet, and to the point. The five rules are: 1. Follow directions quickly! 2. Raise your hand for permission to speak. 3. Raise your hand for permission to leave your seat. 4. Make smart choices. 5. Keep your dear teacher happy! There are hand gestures that go with these as well. (You can see what the WBT website recommends here.) I will give...

Whole Brain Teaching: Teach! Okay! and Switch!

Okay I want to share another cue/callback from whole brain teaching. This one is called Teach! Okay! I'm also going to add in Switch! because they go hand in hand. Teach! Okay! is a fabulous way to reinforce concepts and ideas throughout the lesson. This practice combines seeing, saying, hearing, and doing. It gets students involved and talking. Yoga Balls

I have a fun idea that I want to share with you today. It is something I have tried in my classroom with positive results. That idea....yoga balls! Whole Brain Teaching: Class! Yes!

I want to share with you a few tips that changed the way I taught. It's called Whole Brain Teaching or WBT. The summer after I had my first baby I was busy changing diapers, feeding, and playing with my 3 month old. My teaching partner was busy on Pinterest searching for good ideas for us to try next year. She stumbled upon something called Whole Brain Teaching and we never looked back. Now let me start off by saying that I don't claim to be an expert. I don't claim to know everything about it. I have tried it...

WOW Board: Classroom Motivator

I have to share with you something that I absolutely love: The WOW board! This beautiful piece of poster board was introduced to me by my friend and colleague. I used it throughout the year but found it especially helpful near the end of the school year. By this time, we have been reviewing/testing/practicing for days on end. I worked my kids hard this time of year and wanted to continue to reward their good behavior and accomplishments. The WOW Board is such an easy way to reward behavior, academic performance, improvement etc. All I did was take a normal...
